I love my new bass but I'm not doing anything PG-13+ to it. The best thing (other than the fact that Chi-Sonics are by far the best pickups I've ever used) is the neck. J-width with a bit more junk in the trunk (if ya dig. Jazzes always felt to thin as in from the fretboard to the back of the neck, not as in the nut width. Jazz nut width is perfect). It's super smooth, the frets are the best I've played on (and I own a MIA EBMM), the binding and blocks are beautiful, the wood looks great. It's perfectly balanced. Mmmmmmmm. | I've thought about adding a third pickup to me Decade...very cool dude! Quote:

I'll stand corrected on its appropriateness in that application, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
I see that the US models offer fretless necks, but not Skyline. That may narrow my decision down for me. I really like my 55-02, so that's a no-brainer. A fretless JO5 is certainly a possibility, but waiting on February availability (or so I was last told).
All of it is pure research until my basses and gear finish selling and I can stop window shopping and make something happen. But it's great to talk about and investigate!

I lucked out and it already had the third pickup added when I bought it (two owners ago it was sent to Lakland to have it professionally installed. Very cool). I seriously wish Lakland would offer a version of the Decade with 3 pickups, because it really takes an already great bass to the next level. Tweaking around a bit I can get it to sound almost like a P, I can get some really growly J-like sounds from the bridge, the neck can pull off some Gibson-esque tones. I honestly don't even have to switch basses in my set anymore, except for the one song that I play fretless on (my defretted MIM Jazz with Ken Smith Slicks comes to the rescue on that song ) |

I was watching it and watching it trying to talk myself out of buying another bass.
Recently sold the US Decade I had with single coil chi's...
Often kick myself in the rear for it...But know Lee is taking very good care of it for me...hahaha!! Right Lee? Quote:

Having that middle pickup is really nice. The amount of options I have at my disposal is just crazy. My two go-to tones on the bass is middle dimed for pick and bridge+neck (with the neck volume turned slightly off to open up the tone a bit, and the bridge dimed. Diming both, kinda like in a J bass, takes out the bite). It has so much warmth, sometimes it feels like my Streamliner 900 has a tube power section! |

| | | | I have Stainless Steel Lo-Riders (Medium) on my USA Joe Osborn (and my Stingray Slo Special and Sterling). Best strings I've ever used. I love the way they feel and sound and I simply cannot seem to break one no matter how hard I try. They really set-up nice for some reason too. I think I'll put a set on my USA Glaub. I really don't like the feel of Lakland's stock strings. |

The strings that are coming with Lakland Skyline basses are D'Addario.
This is another example of how this long thread is confusing. The opening post in thread #60 was Greg saying exactly what I just said. |
