picked up this LOG fiver P in a trade a few weeks ago and it's become my main bass for my main band. What a nice bass. Really easy to play, very musical over the whole range, including the B string. And has P tonal mojo.

Came with rounds on it and I'm leaving them on for now, although I am generally a flats player.

well, you see, there's the ball...and then there's me...and I'm just not on it

haha! I keep telling myself I'll hit up the LOG forum one day soon. For some reason, I keep telling myself I'm waiting for my next Lakland...because then my collection will be "complete"

It's obvious now that this will never be true.

Here's to me joining the LOG...soon!

For the record, the 44-01 is a good looking piece of Spalt, but the 55-01 I took the pic of has a flamey ripple with the Spalt that I've never seen before. They're both beautiful, but the 55 is really unique...

And someone tried to tell me a few months ago that the figured Skylines were "photo flame"!!!

So they have a different pattern of flame for each bass?

I've never played a Lakland but I gotta admit I am very intrigued after reading all of this feedback on talkbass. Problem is I've never played one and the US Series is so hard to come by. I mainly play a Fender Jazz, so I'm intrigued by the 44-60. There's 2 dealers in colorado and the one remotely close to me only has skyline models. If I am able to demo a Skyline 44-60 do you guys think that would show me enough to buy a US Series 44-60 with High Confidence I will love what I'm getting? Any thoughts appreciated. I'm considering selling my Modulus Q5 to help fund it. Thanks.

I had a dealer that will remain nameless say the AJ's were foto flame while extolling the virtues of the US model he was trying to sell me.

I just smiled and uh-huh'd him

Skylines are nice, but they will feel like a nice MIA Fender -- maybe a little better. The US Joe Osborn is on a whole different level, especially the feel of the neck, the woods, fretwork, weight and overall fit/finish. So, I'd say if you like the Skyline, you'll be blown away by the US version. Whether you think the cost difference is worth it is up to you. Most owners of the US models, including me, resoundingly agree that it is.

I just put up new set of Elixir 45-105 on my 44-64, and IT LIVES!!! Much better P tone than with EB Coated I had.
