I'm about 98% sure it's what I want to do...I'm planning on checking them out a little more thoroughly at Sweetwater Gearfest, and probably going home with one of my own.

Just polished 'em up today, put TI flats on the Inca Silver and tweaked the setups. Yeah baby.

Wow, thanks for the video! I've never heard the Meters before, but that was definitely awesome! I'll have to hunt down some more of their music to listen to.
Thanks to everyone else for weighing in. Part of my hesitation is that it's an Asian made instrument for close to the price of a U.S. Fender, but that Lakland...I've never played anything like it before. There was almost nothing I could have improved on it. | Yeah, the necks are addictive! I'm honestly spoiled for anything else now.
No problem, glad I could turn you on to them! George Porter is one of my favorites. He played a very well-loved '60s Fender P for decades, but since discovering Lakland, he always seems to be playing that bass. (Granted, he might have "retired" his baby, not sure.) Quote:

Not in the cards this time, maybe next year.
If you get in the car early enough, you could "swing by" the Lakland shop, too. Seriously, if you do get the chance sometime, it's only four hours and change from Detroit. The crew over there is really great, if you set up a date and time to visit they're very accomodating.

I might just have to put that on my summer itinerary.
Well, that does it! You guys are much nice than those Fender people!

Both great basses but the Lak is #1 on my list. Not sure I'll ever need another bass. (Of course I'll get one, though. )

Well, that does it! You guys are much nice than those Fender people! | They do! Now I will say, it's not a big place (one big room and a couple smaller ones), so the "tour" is pretty short. But it's a very cool and fun place to hang for a while. They almost always have instruments to play. And if you like those skinny-stringed instruments, they make some neat guitars under the Hanson name and have those on hand as well.
Also, nearby are Bass Club Chicago and Chicago Music Exchange, which are each great stores--BCC has the boutique thing covered, while CME has an incredible vintage collection.
If you come to town, let me and Doug/basspraiser know, we're the welcoming committee. I am lucky enough to live close to all these places, and Doug uses it as an excuse to come into town.
