It's because I really like the Squier J Deluxe and would prefer to use it on certain jobs and recordings ...HOWEVER...there is a stigma about using what some may consider a "hobbyists" instrument. That can put 2 strikes against you from the start. They see that "Squier" and they get nervous. They see Fender and they're secure.
Yeah, yeah, I let my playing speak for me. And I actually think it's kinda cool that I can make a $300 instrument sound better than a lot of $3000 instruments. But heaven forbid, if something goes wrong, people will assume it's because you're using a cheap entry level bass. If it's a Fender -- sorry guys, I have a short. And no one would blame me.
Call it justification -- I call it business.
And oh yeah, you won;t believe how many compliments I get on my sound when using that bass. Totally stock. It really is something special. | Take two basses to the audition / session. Your Squier and one of your three Fenders. Tune and soundcheck with both, then play the one that feels / sounds best. If it turns out to be the Squier, nobody will care. If they are stuck on "brand", and THEY are paying YOU, put the Squier away, play the Fender, collect your pay.
I used to have the "I'll play whatever the heck I wanna play" attitude. Still do for the most part. But when I'm auditioning for a gig, I take two basses....my favorite "go-to bass" (Alembic Series II 5-string) and something that looks like a 4-string Fender (these days that would be a Music Man Sabre). I've found out that I lost a couple jobs because people saw the Alembic and either ASSUMED I'd go all Jaco / Stanley on them or were irritated that I didn't. Funniest session I had was recording for a commercial. The saxophonist looked at my Roscoe fretless and started hinting that GC was having a sale on Fenders if I was interested in moving up. Basically insinuating that I had the Roscoe because obviously I couldn't afford a Fender. Even funnier is that I'd played with him before at one of the churches I've played at and I'm sure I used the Roscoe and Alembic then.

There are some Squiers that play and sound as good or better than US built instruments but the truth is it's really the player and not the instrument .

And oh yeah, you won;t believe how many compliments I get on my sound when using that bass. Totally stock. It really is something special. | If you own 3 Fenders and you want to use your Squier because you think it's superior, then you have two choices:
1) Take a weak deceptive road and misrepresent the Squier as something it isn't.
2) Take a strong self-respecting road. Take both a Fender and the Squier to the gig. If anybody gives you any static about the Squier, tell them the Squier sounds better and offer to play each for comparison. You could turn some folks into believers and increase the demand for Squiers causing Fender to raise Squier prices for the rest of us.

I play my Squier and dont give an eff. It gets compliments from other musician friends even if I dont.

I'm thinking of putting a Squier logo on my Sadowsky because I can't stand the pressure.
