My Favourites:
Electric guitar headstocks: Fender Telecaster (50s) and Gibson Les Paul (standard)
Steel string acoustics: the classic Martin headstock
Basses: Music Man (which is esp. in the 5 string version better than the Fender), Spector, and...........................Steinberger. ;-)
I like it classy and simple.
Headstock dislikes:
- Epiphone
- Dean

Don't think I could stand a pointy style headstock on a bass, just doesn't seem right to me. But, other than that, I wouldn't let the headstock turn me off an otherwise great bass, unless I really just couldn't see myself playing it.

"hey, we need a spot for the 5th string tuner, could we have a new headstock design for it?"
"No, take the old one and put it on the underside"
I think, the MusicMan 4 + 1 looks more familiar as the Fender 4 +1, because the Musicman 4-string has 3 + 1 also, so my eyes are used to this look....
And I agree with you, I was looking for a 5-string bass with wide neck, active, for less than 300 Euros.
I bought the Squier Deluxe Jazz Bass V - and since I play it for months, the headstock style looks more and more familiar to me.
Anyway, next basses will be a Stingray and a Spector Forte 5...;-)
Greetz
PS: So as all Squier basses I tested in the last 12 months (even comparing to US Fenders), my Squier is fantastic - to my opinion, there is no need to buy US Fenders.
The littel more in qualitiy and sound isn't worth the much bigger price - the playability is even the same.

I like the smaller 2x2 headstocks like yours which is really close looking to my Ibby SR headstock. Not much neck dive from the smaller ones.

That said I own several Musicman basses which are not tilt back!
I like how those look, kinda traditional, kinda evil.

straight string pull, angled back and very little wasted wood. Elegance in a headstock, and perfectly functional.
