The Stambaugh headstock is still my favorite:

My favorite vintage styles are the Ric and Guild headstocks:

Headstocks I like:
- All 3 companies Leo got involved with have classy headstocks (Fender, G&L, MusicMan). Although I have to say the pointed G&L headstock looks better on 4 strings rather than 5
- The RIC headstock is a classic and iconic
- Spector's also got a good design
- Thunderbird

Headstocks that don't quite do it for me:
- Warwicks

Headstocks that I just don't like:
- Alembic
- Flying V
- BC Rich Warlock + Beast

One of my pet peeves about headstocks are the ones that don't have a sufficient angle to ensure the proper break of a string against the nut. Having a string tree or similar device just seems like a bandaid to fix something that shouldn't be an issue. I also agree with several posters in not liking pointed headstocks. Having the finish on the headstock match the body seems like a good thing.

Buckeye Burl. I think burl is bitchen. My wife says it looks like a Flintstones bass. I never liked the fender straight 5 design. I also agree with the opinion that a headstock should have a decent angle to it.

Tune headstocks are great IMO, they look good and contribute to the awesome balance of Tune basses.

I still have to say fender jazz headstock...
Especially in sonic blue
but only in 4 string. 5 string just looks like they drilled an extra hole.
Which is what they did i guess.

I'm not hugely bothered by them unless they are truly hideous or just don't fit the bass they're attached to, however...

Favorites: Fender (even better when they match the body), Lakland, Gibson's RD headstock and Specto/Warwick. Special mention to the Warwick Buzzard, the only pointy headstock i like.

Least favorite: Avella Coppolo boat paddles and anything pointy

I have a Modulus Q4 and as much as I love the bass I have always thought that although the headstock design is distinctive, it is not very attractive or in any way pleasing.
In fact, IMHO it is rather goofy looking.

Obviously via my Sig I am biased, but

the standard Fender P/J/Strat (fiddle) shape is the first thing I think of when I think of "guitar" and/or "bass". That headstock just says "rock" to me. It is like saying "Coke" when you mean any type of soda...classic

after that, the Charvel/Jackson headstock is my next fav. To me this says "thrash" in the best way.

I tend to not like small headstocks, especially when they are crammed with lots of tuners. Or oversized head stocks like Deans or BC rich's (even though I love some of the classic BC Rich body shapes). The headstock has to look like it balances the bass physically for me to like it

Fender headstocks (Classic or Tele), not a fan of CBS oversized ones
Spector headstocks are gorgeous, too.
Not a fan of Sadowsky or the new SX, though.

Personally, my favourites are probably the Fender (or Fender-style) headstocks, followed by some of the headstocks offered by BC Rich (although I can't put up with the other styles that come on their basses). I also quite like the headstocks on ESP and MTD's offerings.

Edit: I also quite like the headstocks on Zon basses. Pretty tasty.
