Light bass, thin neck? I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm new here. I'm looking for recommendations for a light bass with a thin neck, 4 or 5 string? My G & L 5-string is 9 lbs and the neck is too chunky for me. I'm looking for a reasonable price, too. |
Ibanez SR series have thin necks. I own an sr756. I don't know what the weight is, but I don't notice it as being heavy. |

Definitely look at Ibanez. Peavey and Yamaha are also options and you should try them as well. However my vote is for Ibanez. |
Yup, Ibanez - sr505 on a budget, sr605 or 755 if you want to spend a little more... buy used, your money will go WAY farther, and Ibanez is pretty consistant... Schecter may interest you, also... - georgestrings |

Ibbys all the way for weight, thin necks, and price, you cant beat em. |
Hofner Icon. Again! 5 lbs and thin neck. Fun to play, sounds great. All for about $300. |
The Bass Company... TBC's are some of the lightest basses I have played..and the 4 strings have very slim jazz-like necks. |
Ibanez SR and Esp ltd in mahogany and basswood body verisons are lightweight with thin necks with excellent sound to imo. |

Willcox Guitars Lightwave Sabre bass. Thinnest, fastest neck and the bass might weigh 7 lbs at best. |
What would the OP consider a "light" bass? |
Depends on your budget. There are a lot more choices for lightweight when you get up into the $1000+ range. |
Go for a mid to high range Ibanez. I have a used SR 400 that is really my "I need a bass to play" that I grab. It's just always in tune, great control of the tone with the pots, thin, super fast neck. And a mid weight. I think the newer SR500 also weighs nothing and sounds like butter. They aren't devoid of weight, but you don't feel like you've had a Ric around your neck all night. They are really on the very light side of "medium" weight. And the SR500 is a bargain. Bartolini pickups, fast as hell thin neck, for around $600. I'm keeping my eye out for a gently used one. However, even used, on Ebay, i think the cheapest I saw was $450. At that price I would consider just buying a new one. (I like deep discounts). I think I've seen the for $550 on sale. And I bet you could find one for $499 with some sort of discount or coupon or some crap. |

Any TUNE bass (4 strings) is light and has nice thin neck. Sound to choose from.... Incredible construction and great guitar. |
