| | | | Light bass, thin neck? I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm new here. I'm looking for recommendations for a light bass with a thin neck, 4 or 5 string? My G & L 5-string is 9 lbs and the neck is too chunky for me. I'm looking for a reasonable price, too. |

| | | | Yup, Ibanez - sr505 on a budget, sr605 or 755 if you want to spend a little more... buy used, your money will go WAY farther, and Ibanez is pretty consistant... Schecter may interest you, also...

| | | | Go for a mid to high range Ibanez. I have a used SR 400 that is really my "I need a bass to play" that I grab. It's just always in tune, great control of the tone with the pots, thin, super fast neck. And a mid weight. I think the newer SR500 also weighs nothing and sounds like butter. They aren't devoid of weight, but you don't feel like you've had a Ric around your neck all night. They are really on the very light side of "medium" weight.
And the SR500 is a bargain. Bartolini pickups, fast as hell thin neck, for around $600. I'm keeping my eye out for a gently used one. However, even used, on Ebay, i think the cheapest I saw was $450. At that price I would consider just buying a new one. (I like deep discounts). I think I've seen the for $550 on sale. And I bet you could find one for $499 with some sort of discount or coupon or some crap. |
