Hey talkbass,
This is my first post. I was lured to this site because of all the info that is here regarding SGC basses. I happen to have the SB505. It was given to me by a good friend. He had played the devil out of it and decided to pick up a Spector. I love the bass, especially for the things that most of you dislike. I am a fairly smaller man in stature (5'7" 155lbs), so the weight and size works for me. The bass has a really distinguished sound (with just the stock items).
I had a small disappointment with bass when I went to trade it in--no one knew what it was! That was a major set back because dealers couldn't hang any value on it. That just about offended me because I loved it so much. So I decided to keep it forever and make it shine.
I went and got a superior paint job from an excellent air brush artist (Alan Pastrana-www.pastranaunlimited.com), replaced the electronics with all EMG equipment (EMG P5J pups & BQC control/pre-amp juiced up to 18volts), replaced and created new dots on the fret board (SB505 comes without dots on the front. Only side dots. I'm installing abolone front dots) and lastly converted the B & E strings into thru-bodies with some ferrules on the back (the original Gotoh bridge allows for both string options). The whole process should be complete by the New Year ('07). Stay tuned for pics and clips.

Is the 465 an active 5 string? Going by the previous article I thought I had the 305, but you say it was passive. Mine is definitely active. Did the 305 come in active and passive?  |

Hey guys, I just registered on this board. I recently bought an old Bass Collection SGC Nanyo bass, and it looks like no other i've seen (it's butt ugly  ). I, like so many others here was searching for more info on these basses but came up with very little or no info. I'll put up a link to a picture of it, but It doesen't give much details, maybe I'll get some better pics of it later. The pickups have "K&M" stamped on them. This is the only "metal" looking bass I've seen from this manufacturer.. Very strange.

I guess I own a bass no one seems to have. I have that sr611 wos pictured on aquanova's catalog, except mine has gold knobs as well. It is a very fine bass, well finished and very easy to play (except maybe for slapers because of the very small string space and somewhat strange string "rebound"). The sound is good although I think it is quite limited and maybe a little bit sterile (it isn't very easy to describe sound in a non native language!!!). I guess it could work very well with a fretless fingerboard (maybe someday I get a luthier to make me a new neck since I don't want to ruin this one) Just a for the record mine doesn't have the model written anywhere. The only info is bass collection written on the headstock (on the plastic piece that lets access the truss rod), sgc written on the pickups, gotoh on the hardware, Bass Collection produced by sgc nanyo and made in japan on the electronics cover on the back. There is also a mark of what seems to have been a sticker on this cover that probably had the serial number written on or the model. I didn't buy it new. I bought it from a friend's father who had bought it new in 199... . It has been with me since 2000 and I will probably never sell it. The neck is in fact really smooth as has been reported and mine seems to have an ebony fretboard. Other great things: always in tune, very light.

I guess sterile is the word to describe it. I guess this is good for some stuff and really useless for other.

now ( i will insert pics here soon ) it has been stripped back and refinished by my lovely fiance a bright orange and metallic purple....so just for a little more info, the neck is two peice maple, with one peice ranging from last fret to the nut where another peice of maple joins it for the headstock, the body is one peice alder, active and i found the model number stamped in the neck pocket....umm, thats about it thats new...but i shall post pics soon!

Just thought you guys might want to have a look at my Bass Collection. I'll try and get more info, but I bought it around 1998. It has always been and still is brilliant.
