Looking for a good new bass, only got $300, what should i get?

I've been playing on a Jay Turser 400c for a while and i think its time for me to upgrade. I play mainly with a pick or slapping, and i play rock or funk. I've only got around three hundred dollars to get a new bass and i want to know what would be the best bass to get.

"New" as in brand new? If so, you'll get a much better used bass for the money.

I would really suggest you buy used, but if it has to be new then try some Squires

SR500 if you can find one for that cheap (I see them that cheap used at GC occasionally).

Otherwise Squier VM. The all maple ones are very nice.

The man said: NEW - and I don't blame him.

VM, CV or an SR500 if/when you can deal on one with a coupon and some squeezing on the store manager.

Peavey Foundation, Forum, Fury, Dynabass, T-40. If you find a USA Peavey, grab it.

By the way, I have found several used basses in like new condition.

Don't forget that a new bass is still going to need a $100 setup. If it hasn't already been done maybe consider having your present bass setup properly? That can easily halve the effort it takes to play it .
