Mahogany/walnut vs. Maple/walnut?

I've been looking at the Epiphone Pro-IV and Classic Pro-IV, and was wondering what the difference is between mahogany/walnut and maple/walnut, in both tone and weight. Also, what are the differences between the pickups on those 2 basses?

mahogany is lighter and darker sounding. The classic would have a little bit lighter neck.
