Mid-range Ibanez Bass EDB550 vs SR500
Mabuhay from the Philippines!
My first post here. Must say I've learned a lot from the TalkBass forums. I've been a bassist for almost 5 years now but have not been particularly serious about it until recently. Roughly a year ago I donated my beloved bass to my local church. So I have been particularly rusty lately and the only time I'm able to play is when I'm scheduled to play at church.
I've decided to get serious with the bass and am looking to invest in some good gear. I still have my 35 watt Boston amp at home so the only question is what bass to buy.
I've narrowed down the choices to 2 Ibanez basses - the Ergodyne EDB550 and the Soundgear SR500. The SR I've already tried at a local music store and It plays pretty well -- and is really veeeery easy to play (I love the fast neck). I haven't tried the Ergodyne yet but I heard good things about it. I have to put in a special order for the Ergodyne because I heard Ibanez is no longer manufacturing them. The price is almost the same at around $500 (local store price) with the SR being $20 pricier.
So if you've had experience with either of these basses please post your experience with your bass, even better if you have both and can compare them readily. I play only as a support instrument not solo so I'd rather get the one that plays best with other instruments but would still be distinct and identifiable (not overly though). Also which do you think will last longer with daily use?
