| | | | Midnight Blue Basses! Hey guys, I just bought my first P-bass, and it is a Fender Precision MIM '99 Midnight Blue. (I do not understand why I waited so long!) I have never seen a Midnight Blue before, and when I bought it - it looked like it was blue online. When it arrived, it is more of a dark purple color. (Even more purple than on the picture)
I was thinking that I should replace the pickguard, but I find it hard combining this purple bass color with a nice pickguard. The one on the bass is Perloid. Do you have any suggestions?
Does anyone else have a Midnight Blue bass? Are they rare? It would be nice if you shared a photo, especially if you have a different pickguard! |

I've got a anodized gold pickguard going on it and I'm changing all the hardware to black (Wilkinson 70s tuners, Badass II) and adding an active EMG P pickup. Not sure to finish it w/ gold or black knobs which I've got both so I'll see which i prefer...
All the parts are en route so it'll be another week or so before it's complete. I'll definitely post some pics once it's done. |

As mentioned above, gold anodized would work too. |

I was thinking about changing to a black pick guard, but I will definitely consider the gold one. Where did you find the gold one? Is it like shining gold or a dull gold? |

I wasn't a fan of the stock white pickguard, have a black one to replace it as well as black tuners, knobs, string retainer and some upgraded pickups. It's actually one of my favorite finishes, the color can really play tricks with your eyes sometimes. Will post a pic when I get her back.

| | | | Weird! I just now was searching for the same thing! Mine's a 2000 MIM Midnight Blue. I understand your concern. Mine can look VERY purpley under the right lighting conditions. I was considering pearloid as well, but that's not different enough than the white (for me). Violet Pearl (above post) looks enticing, but I was checking out other violet/purple designs as well and wondered what it would look like when the bass turns BLUE! Tricky. Sub'd. |

White is maybe the one color that is safe, but maybe a bit boring for me. |

I put a BAII bridge on it, EMG's and a red tortoise shell pick-guard. Unfortunately I sold it seven years ago and all the pictures of it that I have are before I replaced the pick-guard, but a google search brought this up: http://fenderbass.net/fender-jazz-ba...01-purple/3835 | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
