And the TC4 Rivals my Sadiowsky Metro as my favorite active Jazz right now. I've plaed it at several gigs and it sits vey well in a mix, played thru a Streamliner 900 and a Bergantino Ae212. | I think those Lull T pickups are magical! I absolutely love the sound of my T4. Comparing it to my Sadowskys, I've used both at the same gig for different sets. I find the Lull T4 a bit warmer and definitely a little fuller and rounder sounding. The Sadowskys might cut through a little more, but they are exceptional for that. The T4 really has a wonderfully full sound that remains very focused at the same time. Hand placement over the pickups really can adjust that in either direction as well.

I have to admit, I would've preferred the Modern body style over the vintage but this was too good a steal not grab it in my own back yard. |

The bridge pickups on the PT are I. The same place as the bridge pickup on the JT.
So I got to play for a good while on a JT4 M5v, M4v, and TC 4. One will join my stable in the next two weeks. The conclusion is that it's a no lose scenario. All basses were a Joy to play and had solid tones that could all work well in many situations... so given that I already love my M4, anything else would just be gravy...

| | | | I've stated before how much I love Mike Lull basses, but I have to re-emphasize. I got my V4 brand new in October 2011, and I still smile every time I play it. I could talk about how good every little aspect of the bass is, but I can just sum it up by saying that it's perfect... Not one thing I don't like about the bass. I love it when I let other bass players pick up my bass, and they're blown away by how incredible it feels/plays. It's so nice to play gig after gig with a bass that feels, sounds, and looks amazing, and is extremely durable and reliable.
And to snowball on top of that, I'll have a new Lull P4 from Greg at Rocket Music in about two weeks. Having a Lull P bass to go along with my Lull jazz bass will be awesome!

Although my general preference is a Bart loaded Lull and I'll tend switch to passive and use an older Sadowsky outboard two band Preamp (in a footswitchable true bypass looper) when I want the "New York" tone. I know Mike has built basses with customer provided pickups and preamps in the past (often with Sadowsky's or Pensa Suhr pres) and there are definately benefits to having similar preamps in your basses (so that you don't have to adjust your amp differently if you already own Sadowsky basses, etc)
What I'd really like to hear is a comparison between the Sadowsky pre and an OBP-1. I was under the impression that Aguilar actually made the Sadowsky pres. Eliminating the mid controls may be removing some colour and Another benefit you're getting is the VTC, which just by being in the circuit can add it's own sound... Can't wait to hear the bass!

Can't wait to hear the bass! | Well, your Lull sounds great. As you know, I had found that my Aguilar-equipped M5V was getting buried in the mix when I'd play in a band context. The mids just weren't there and the low end was too "washy" (for lack of a better term) - it wasn't tight at all. When I'd slap I also found that the G and, to a slightly lesser extent, the D string weren't projecting very well. No punch. With the Sadowsky preamp the bass is much richer and fuller sounding. The low end is punchy and "contained" and the G and D strings are much more substantial in sound. It's really a night-and-day difference. For a while I was contemplating selling the bass but now I'm really happy with it. |
