MIM Jazz Deluxe Question

Ran into a guy today who owns a MIM Fender Jazz Deluxe. The 4th pot where the input jack would normally be-what is that, a pan? And if it went bad what pot replaces it? He says it just spins round and round and doesn't do anything. He'd appreciate some info, and now I'm curious, thanks.

The fourth pot (the smallest one) is the Mids.
I think it's a 100K with detents, It shouldn't spin all the way around.

From your description it sounds like maybe the knob is just spinning on the shaft of the pot. Prolly worth checking if the setscrew is loose.

Might also pull the knob and see if the pot itself is frozen. Had that happen on a Washburn, once; the shaft of the pot just didn't want to turn. Freed it up with some pot cleaner.

There was no knob on it. It spun around on me too.

Spun around freely, more than one turn? OK, it needs to be replaced.

Yes, now where to get a replacement pot? I did a quick field setup on it, it needed some TLC!

It doesn't have to be branded "Fender".
I would just cut it out and take it with you to a music store to buy a replacement (So that you can match it).
They are pretty cheap and easy to replace, just need a soldering iron.

I figured you could get a pot from any electronics store, just didn't know if it was some specialized Fender part. Thanks for the help and I'll pass this info on!
