If you're interested I'm selling my MM Stingra 5 in mint condition, not even a year old, for $734 or best offer.

Grendel. I like MTDs...i have one (a Saratoga too) I couldn't ask for more

Above all play both wihtout looking at price or looking at them in general, play blindfolded and switch them on and off so you can really only tell by sound and feel

I love a good Stingray. I used to own one but I had to sell it to purchase an upright back in my college days. However, I am going to have to say the MTD. I don't know much about the Grendel, but I know that if it has MTD on it, you can't beat the sound and the quality.

Stingray all the way! Used to record and play live in almost every genre thinkable! From rock to funk to country to r&b to jazz to solo to rap to whatever else...the stingray has touched it! It is also American made which is more than I can say for the MTD. I've owned Zon, Modulus, Fender, Yamaha, Peavey, G&L, Kubicki...and I would have to say the Musicman Stingray 5 has been my fav.!

I had a 5 and know have a 4 string Grendel. Loved them both but really fell in love with the 4 after putting a set of Joe Barden pups. This is always been my goto bass and has been for years.

I'd be surprised if choosing was still an issue for the OP after 8 years.
