Well, good luck wih that. Mine dates to about 1978 or so. Neck through, no pattern at all.

The body on yours looks a lot like mine, but you have a 4 string. If it is any help (Which I know it isn't) I was unable to find any information on the Bassstar line. Can't really figure out a timeline either.

Have you tried bypassing the preamp?

minimal sound from the pick-ups, without it

Do you think the pre-amp was stock?

-it was in it when I purchased it around 84'

No idea, but if the pickups are good and it were me, I'd just get a new preamp.

I was having the same problem and mine turned out to be the connection to the battery.
I had to change the battery terminal and it worked perfectly!

Bassstar serial numbers

Hi guys...bolt on necks have a number on the heel. Mine is 022. Neck-thrus are anybodys guess, haven't found one on mine anywhere.

My Bassstar does not have a serial number.. It does have the Pat. # on it though. I think that dates it to 1978 or later.

Sam Ash on 48th Street in NYC has a BassStar-necked white PJ with EMG Select pickups and a bridge (forget what type) that's been ghetto-modded with one non-matching saddle. I'm pretty sure thay've had this bass on their wall for at least two or three months now.

They're asking ~$1,200 iirc. Too much for a bass with crappy pickups and a hacked bridge imho, but it's still making me think about it. Damn you, Modulus!

Yea, that is really way too much. With a bolt on in great condition, they should be getting about $800 or so.

Ha! If it was only $800 I'd probably buy it just for the neck & body, and throw out all the hardware & electronics!

I agree. It probably would be a good thing from how you described it.
