Monsters of Folk/ What kind of Bass?

Watching "Monsters of Folk" on Austin City Limits . Anyone know what kind of Bass the bass player was playing on some songs, the one with a single cutaway, hollow body , with a trapeze tail piece ? Never seen one like that before. Here are some photos:

I think someone else just asked the same thing yesterday. A quick search should find it for you.

I'd agree. Once i could see the headstock it does look like a '60s Kay.

Kay has really come up in price And collectibility in the last couple years. They had some stellar art deco archtop jazz guitars that you used to find at yardsales and pawnshops for nothing. Now people are fighting tooth and nail over Kay and i cant help to wonder if theres something i miss.

Scarcity. Only so many guitars were made in the past.
When Gibson arch tops became expensive people sought cheaper alternatives. Kay made a few solid top master built archtops, and they used to be considered the "poor mans Gibson".

The EBay-ing of the world changed that forever.
