Most Influential Bass and Bassist

As a brand new member of TB, I feel that my first post should be dedicated to the most impressive bass AND bassist of all time: the Fender Precision and Danny Partridge. Upon joining the forum, I was shocked to discover that one could find hardly a whisper of this influential, barrier-breaking bassist amongst the countless threads in the TB vault.

We already know well the P-Bass. So, let's move on to Danny. If you were born prior to 1970, you can dig that it was impossible to escape the funky impact of his bass pickin' grooviness. How many bassists do you know that could fret a note without ever actually fretting the note? Singing live a challenge? Hah! Try lip-synching to one of those far-out hit singles, like, "I Think I Love You!" Watch how he would violently shake that bass neck with every beat, yet somehow manage to pull off a flawless performance in funky, heavy threads.

I say, "Right on, P-Bass. Right on, Danny!"*

*disclaimer: thread started in jest. Happy to be here with you mates.

The funniest part of the whole show was that they replaced the younger brother who played drums and none of the family members noticed.

To be honest, I wanted Susan Dey in the bus.

M. R. Ogle - You better not let Ruben Kincaid hear that!

wvbass - Thanks

The little sister played one mean tambourine...but nowhere near as well as Davy Jones.

Danny must have had ties to FMIC: Who supplied him with the now-vintage lefty? Ruben?

Am I completely misremembering The Partridge Family, or didn't Danny spend most of his screen time playing a Gretsch hollowbody bass?

The Partridge Family was probably the most influential band of the 60s, even exceeding such hacks as The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. Once you see them perform live I'm sure you'll agree!

The sad/scary thing is that a new Volkswagen commercial is using the Partridge Family theme at the end.
