The Most Ridiculous Deal On a Bass You Ever Made..,or MISSED!

I have two --

The first was back in 1999 when I found a 1985 62' Re-issue at a garage sale. (So it's now a vintage instrument of a vintage instrument. : ) )

It was dirty so I got them down to 175 bucks. lol

And back in 1990, I found a 1978 4001 maple blond Rick in a record store! MINT. Ricks had totally fallen out of favor by that time, so the value wasn't real high Got it for $225.

The miss -- When I first started playing back in the 80's I had a chance to buy a 1964 Hofner for 50 bucks. I passed.

What's your's?

i think that my best deal was my all original '62 seafoam green p bass (my avatar pic) in 1975 from its original owner for $250.00. i still have it, and it's the best p bass that i've ever played (and i've owned more than 50 of them).

It wasn't me nor was it a bass, but my ex-singer picked up what we thought was some cheap import guitar for $150 and it turned out to be a handmade custom guitar from a luthier named Mike Rowan that would normally go for about $3K.

A little work and we could turn it into a super short scale bass.

another good deal that i got was that in 1974 bought a '68 Hofner beatle and a '70 Hofner beatle together for $125.00. i kept the better one (the '68) and sold the '70 for a $150 two days later.
still have the '68. IME, you could buy hofners for 'peanuts' in the mid 70's.

Warwick P-Nut I $1899. Normal sale price $3899. Music 123 had a typo on their website one day. Right place at the right time. They honored the advertised price. I bought it after wanting one for over a year.

I had a couple of amazing deals.

I bought my Blade for about $500, where they normally go for about double that.

I bought my former Yamaha BB300 for $95, and they normally go for about $400.

And yesterday, I got a Yamaha BB400S fretless for $100.

I got a '78 Stingray for $350 in about 1995. Someone had done an absolutely horrible refinish on it-it's just a clear coat, but they apparently took off the original finish with an electric sander and then globbed it on with a brush, but for the price I didn't care. It plays and sound great and looks fine as long as your at least 10 feet away.

Please tell us you made an attempt to get it back to the owner? If not that's stealing in my opinion!

I bought a 1974 P bass from a friend, with a little 1X12 kustom amp for 200 bucks. He was going to college and needed the dough.
Still my main axe

A few early & mid 70's P and J basses for $200 each
