MTD Kingston Artist 5, Warwick Rockbass $$ Corvette 5, or ... ???
I'm looking for some advice on my first fretted fiver (I noodle around on an SR375F when I can tear myself away from my Godin A4 fretless). I'm also interested in exploring a bass with MM-ish tones.
Unfortunately, I'm convinced that I "need" a 24-fret neck, which rules out the Ray35 that would give me the genuine MM sound. This leaves me with (as far as I know) the MTD Kingston Artist 5 or a Warwick RB $$ Corvette 5. Or is there something out there I'm missing?
I know I won't get 100% MM tone from either of these, but they'll get me "close enough". Unfortunately if I want either one I'll have to buy it sight-unseen. So hopefully someone out there has had his/her hands on both and can provide some feedback.
Recently I've become concerned about out-of-the-box quality as well as how a bass will hold up in the long term. I'm done with what my buddies call "shenanigans"--tinkering with pickups, electrics, etc. etc. These days I'm trying to focus on playing, as my office/workshop/man-cave has just been converted into a bedroom for my eldest child. So I no longer have no room in which to pretend to be a luthier. :bawl:
I've had both and I recently traded the Corvette. I did love the sound but it was a lot heavier than the MTD. YMMV
