The MTD Kingston Series Andrew Gouche Signature Model

I was checking it out at winter NAMM 2013. The bass sounded very good to my ears. The overall quality is top notch with USA electronics (for those to whom it may matter).

So, assuming you've played a USA MTD, how close would you say it gets to them sound and play-ability wise?

Yes I have. It has a tiny aspect that it's not USA made (but not in a bad way) and I have played Andrews personal USA model and the sound of both models pretty much are the same.

A blind fold test would not really reveal that one is lacking over the other in regards to tone.

I was really impressed with the sound of the bass.

The bass that I was playing belongs to bassist Ben Jones.

That's the best looking import MTD i've seen.

Wow-that sounds really nice!

How much do they retail for? I would be interested in a 5 string.

$1,900 for a Kingston is better than $4,300 for a USA MTD.

And it's a great bass for the money.

Sounds great... though I think you could probably play a 2x4 strung up with dental floss and make it sound amazing! LOL!

Strange enough was actually just looking at the 5 string version of that bass. I'm usually a passive J bass guy but I'm kind of itching for a modern sounding 5. Played a K series MTD a few years back and was shocked how well it played.

MTD's have beautiful necks. My Kingston 5 is really comfy. Pretty mean sounding too with the single MM pickup. The Gouche I bet is just super sweet.

Lusting kinda bad on this one-

Don't know if I could ever adjust to the 35". Had a wonderful 55-94 Classic years ago but could never get used to the tension of the 35" scale.... but then again I wasn't playing much at the time either.

Those single MM Kingston's do play great. I would love to pick one of the old passive ones.

As you can hear in the video that the bass definitely get a modern sound out of it.

Thanks for the shout out Jauqo. This is one of the finest basses I have ever owned. I am not about the USA vs. import argument at all. I have owned many instruments over the years, both American and import. What matters is if the instrument looks, plays and sounds the way you want it to. If it does then it is a good instrument for you. All I can say is even including the custom instruments I own and some USA's the MTD Kingston AG-6 gets the most play time these days along with my Carvin SB5000.
