MUCKELROY CUSTOM BUILD (MEDIUM SCALE CONTENT)

I have a custom build on its way with Brady Muckelroy out of San Marcos, Tx http://bradybass.com/ Thought I'd share the progress.

Here are the general specs:
"Bernal" model 5 string 32" scale
-neck through construction
-3 piece neck (wenge with bloodwood center)
-wenge fretboard (compound radius / 20" @ nut to 25" @ 24th fret
-walnut body wings
-Nordstrand MM bridge pickup/ J neck pickup (slanted)
-active (vol, blend, treb, mid, bass, 2 way switch for bridge pickup for series/ single coil)
-gold hardware (16.5mm S.T.S. spacing at bridge)
-string through body

What made you decide to slant the J pickup? Looks really nice...make sure to post the finished product!

Predominantly aesthetics. The pup configuration was inspired by the Warwick PNut III. The tonal implications seem debatable based on my reading. It seems logical that it would serve the same purpose as a reverse P though.

Brady did some work for me on my CB fretless (added lines). I had the opportunity to visit his workshop and see his work up close. He's an outstanding craftsman (and musician to boot).

Brady is making some masterpieces out of that little shop. I'm definitely getting one done in the near future. He is also a superb bassist. Lovely choice of woods. Sub'd.

no, it doesn't. People always post threads in Basses when they are having a bass built by a luthier.

Really cool looking bass. I've been following Brady's builds on FB. Nice to see a TB'er getting one of his basses. The ebony topped 4 stringer he built looks amazing.

Have you investigated 32" scale strings? I know Curt Mangan is making 32" scale low Bs and Es for basses like thi.

I'd bet regular scale strings will work since its a string through. I use long (34") scale strings on my strung-thru 32" five string.

String-thru was an option I wanted because the string market has a much wider selection of five string sets for "normal" scale.

Nice progress! The excitement waiting for a bass and getting photo updates is a special feeling, huh?
