Musicman Sabre Reissue

I came across this on eBay today. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Ernie-Ba...item19d6660e72

Looks like Ernie Ball will be reissuing their Sabre line. I can't seem to find any info on Musicman's site though. Anyone aware of this?

Actually, that's what the mid-late 80's EB Sabre looked like; using the Ray bridge and B serials. They didn't get the cast ones.

Very cool. However, I seem to recall Sterling Ball being very vocal about not wanting to do any reissue stuff. I guess We can say, that We saw it coming with the Classic series.

Am I the only person thinking that photo looks a little Microsoft Paint-ish? Once I see it on the MM site, then I'll get pumped.

Sterling Ball's new business model seems to be "We'll do anything to increase sales". Which on one hand is a wise business tactic, but on the other hand, it does cheapen the EBMM brand somewhat.

only if they put out crap which they haven't in my opinion... The classic rays (which are the only new additions to the line I've messed around with) are really nice...

How does it cheapen the brand? It gives more people a variety of what they want which does add to sales but I don't see how that would cheapen a brand. The quality control is still the same, the value of the instruments doesn't change. For example, when EBMM only made the Stingray and Sterling, their used value was pretty consistent. Now that they have since added the Reflex, Big Al, Bongo, Classic and rumor has it, the Sabre again, the used value is still about the same so I'm not sure where you come up with the idea that because more models are now available, their product is cheapened. Even with the new SUB series and Sterling by Music Man stuff that costs less. all that does is open the door for entry level players or fairly new players to get a great instrument for an affordable price but EBMM was smart in how they put those products out in that they limited the finishes available and didn't make any limited edition models.

+1

Expanding the brand is a good thing. Play a Sub...or a SBMM,

Sterling's been putting the MM Brand in more hands for the right reasons.

And damned if he does, or doesn't, he's been putting out what people have been asking for. Pretty Cool I think. But I like EBMM.

Less expensive yes...cheapen the brand? Me no think so.

I hope the Sabres are made again, only lighter and with color and fingerboard options. And exposed pole pieces. I miss my old one, should never have gotten rid of it. Sunburst (or brown, or natural, or white...) with rosewood, 3 mini switches, exposed pole pieces and around 9 pounds? /drool

When I started talking about the Sabre, the wife instantly shot me "the look". I wonder if I offered to sell off my ATV's if she would then be okay with more bass goodness?

Hahaha +1 to that. The funny thing is I renewed my supporting membership about 3 minutes before finding this thread.
