My end of Summer vacation(Roscoe content!!!)
So I finally succumbed to my families wishes of visiting them. My Brother, two sisters and mother moved to the Raleigh/Durham area a few years back. I was a little anxious for a few reasons. Mainly I seldom travel and I would be flying and I was wondering what I would do for 5 days!
A week or so before liftoff I was drooling over some boutique basses in the Roscoe club here in TalkBass. And it hit me!!! Maybe one of those days I could visit the Roscoe factory in North Carolina!? I emailed their site and Gard responded within 2 to 3 hours stating he would be happy to show me around the shop. We made all of the arrangements and it was set.
I've always felt that Roscoe Basses are beautiful instruments, I've heard that their sound is unrivaled and I've assumed that their customer service was good. Indeed the instruments are gorgeous and, arguably, they sound awesome but I was wrong about the customer service. Their customer service is much better than I anticipated. It's like Tony the tiger says "Good? they're great!!!
When I got there, ten minutes early, Gard was on the phone. He apologized and said he'd be right with me. As I waited I noticed that Gard was in problem solving mode and he handled it with flying colors. I am sure the person on the other end was satisfied by his effort and sincerity.
Throughout the tour Gard offered incite on the process, answered questions and gave me all of his attention. He introduced me to Keith and the staff that was on duty. Everyone was polite and welcoming even though I could tell that they were real busy. Gard stated that they had 3 basses that had to be shipped that very day which is more than their usual workload.
I don't want to get caught up on the minute details of the trip. It was awesome to see the Basses in every stage of building and to see the awesome machines and talented staff do their magic. My main reason for writing this is to get across the point of great service. Roscoe could certainly rest on their laurels and provide ok service with a great product, like most businesses, but they do not!!! Gard had many things to do and he still took the time to show me around the shop. I can't state it enough that this service and treatment is underrated in today's business world. I see a beautiful 5 string fretless in my near future and I can guarantee that it will be made in this little shop in Greensboro,NC by some of the nicest and passionate luthiers in the world!!!
Wally, thanks for the kind words, I'm flattered (for myself and the whole shop). :)
It was very cool to meet you, and I wish I'd had more time to hang out and talk about stuff, but it was "one of those" days!
If there's anything I can ever do to help you (or anyone else) out, please just let me know!
There is no fretless like a Roscoe fretless.
There are no people like Roscoe people.
When you order, you will be treated as though you were a pro endorsing artist. You will not be disappointed and you will probably never play/buy another brand of bass again.
That's awesome that you made it out to the factory Wally!
They truly are IMO the best basses money can buy. You can spend more but IMO they just don't get any better.
And you are correct, the guys at the factory are great to deal with!
I hope that down the road you get a chance to either build one or pick up a stock new or used model. You won't be disappointed! They totally kill in a live mix!
Check out this link and you can access all of the archived threads on the former Roscoe forum. Great info!
