Then it sounds like you got a very good deal. It'd be easy to replace the pickguard screws, but personally, I'd keep it to groove with the road-wear…gives it some additional personality.
Are you gonna keep the pickguard or are you going to make it a little more "MINE" and replace it? If so, please post more pics. Many people here will (and already have) suggest color/texture schemes. I've found it's one of the best ways to personalize a bass without making massive alterations. For example, I took a stock Blacktop Jazz…
…and made it more "ME". All I did was replace the chrome pickguard screws with black ones (very inexpensive) and took a red Sharpie permanent marker to the white pinstripe (astonishingly cheap!).
Everyone's sense of esthetics are different and very personal…sometimes even downright mercurial. For example, if I had this bass, I'd replace the guard with either a black/cream/black one or even a Black Pearl guard (love 'em!), and of course, the aforementioned black screws. But what speaks to you is your choice alone. We can only recommend.
Just be warned, trying to replace it with a guard for an "American Standard Jazz" might not be a perfect fit.
Enjoy your new-to-you bass!
