here is a sneak peak of my new Bluesman Vintage custom bass I am having built..
It has D.Allen pickups installed..
The bridge jazz pickup is 60's spacing..
the Pbass pickup is same location as on a standard Pbass..
and neck jazz is equal distance away from Pbass pickup as the bridge jazz.. putting the Pbass pickup directly between the two..
the neck is also a Pbass style neck..
I never really liked the sound of the typical jazz neck pickup, it was always weak and lacking the definition and Lowend that I was wanting..
My thought is that with this setup I can use the neck jazz to introduce some great lowend from the neck position while keeping that sound punchy and clear unlike the EBO sound in neck position.
The Fender Urge bass was a neat idea but poorly executed IMHO... the sound was always weak and kinda out of phase sounding... I assumed it was result of all 3 pickups being slammed so close together...
Below is a diagram showing layout of Urge Bass pickups compared to the Bluesman Vintage layout.
Easy to tell its a huge difference and also why the Urge sounds "thin" .
