My new parts bass

The body is of a japanese Kumika bought in the late 80's. Neck is SX (obviously) old headstock which I bought from Rondo. Bridge and electronics are unbranded and I am waiting for the pickups and machineheads to arrive. The pickguards are cheapos of Amazon. The body has one coat of some sort of ivory color which I definitely don't like. And that's where you guys come in :hyper:

Please help me choose the color that would go well with either of three pickguards. The best would be to choose a color that would go well with all three pickguards so I can swap them occasionally. That would probably be either black or white. I don't know, I am kinda lost, so please throw in your suggestions.

Dude, i'd keep it the color it is. That white will look sweet with any of those three pickguards.

orange keeps catching my eye on some of these builds

Yup that Ivory color is killer.

Labi 03-13-2013 09:23 AM

Yeah, ivory was my first choice too but in real life that color isn't exactly like it shows on the pic. It's more like banana color. I'll take photos with a decent camera and post them.

The color you have now is perfect for a Jazz and with that red guard on it you'll have a classic look in a bass.

Red-Fiesta!

Hmm... you could get REAL unique and do...

BANANA BURST!

Keep the white-banana, and give it a burst effect to the edges with a more pronounced Yellow. I think that would be subtle, but really cool. The Pearloid guard would look especially nice with it.

There are some good tutorials online that walk through the process to do a burst paintjob with a rattle-can! :D

And this is why I always come here for help ;)
Banana burst would definitely be unique, but I am really after a solid color this time. I also do have some experience with applying burst. Here's one that I've done with an airbrush.

(You can also check the whole project here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/pim...s-pics-770987/)

Anyway, it seems that we have established that ivory would be the best choice, so I have decided to keep it that way. I just need to apply a few more coats of it and the clear coat for protection and to get that glossy finish. The pickups I've ordered are black so in the meantime I'll see if I can get cream or ivory pickup covers just to have more combination choices. Let's see how this turns out.
Thanks for your help guys.

Are you going nitro or poly?

The clear coat will be applied by a friend of mine who makes furniture thus I don't have the luxury of choosing since he will do it free of charge. I don't really mind as long as it's clear and shiny and properly applied :) Nevertheless I will ask him what will he use.

Here's the combination that I like a lot. The parts are just thrown in.

True. But the neck fits in perfectly, and the pickguard covers the side gaps.

In case anyone wondered, here it is. I decided to put the Schaller bridge because I needed the string spacing adjustment as well.
