Totally in love with my MKI too, same story... i wanted a MKII initially, but that thing just blew me away. It still is the most musical bass i own and the one that has the most character.

very nice facings on both MKIs here

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

A couple weeks later my 5 string sold, the Wal popped up on ebay I borrowed the remainder I needed from family and snatched it up. Never thought it would happen but it did. You'll get one!
Ha, I am 41 now lol. Ive wanted one since I heard Geddy play his on Hold Your Fire. I warned the wife I will have one someday and I want to be young enough to gig it heavily and enjoy it.

Yeah I know the feeling of hearing that one tone and just needing it haha. I heard the bass tone on suck my kiss by the peppers and just fell in love with the aggression and intensity of the tone. I also really dig the justin chancellor tone and thats a Wal

Congrats Man, rock it hard! Has any other pick up manufacturer come close to recreating the magic of WAL pickups?

ACG made one pickup so far, but you have to buy his bass to get it.
Then there's that 4 year old thread running in the electronics forum. But to me it's the sum of the whole going on, especially the pickup placement.

I have orders for three basses with the new pickup and will have the first production version in a high spec bass at the London Bass Guitar Show. The two prototype pickups will end up in my own fretless bass.

awesome!! i figured with the year, the time it was bought, and the looks of it that it had too be.

I was offered that bass before he put it on ebay since I bought the Mk I fretless I now own from him and i met with him locally. I was soooooo tempted to get it with the pics he sent me but the time he offered it too me, i still had the aforementioned Shedua. he said he was a HiFi nut and trying to fund new audio gear and was hoping I had something to cut price a bit, but alas i did not. Fortunate for you though!!! enjoy her!!! and believe fellow Wal owners....you cannot just own one

lol Greg is the owner of the one i used to own. Franklin is the guy i met to get my fretless

if yours is still missing a screw, i'm actually going to be ordering some misc parts through Paul again. so if you found anything on that bass that needs changing or adding - I wouldn't mind adding whatever for ya. i hopped on an order with Greg and got some screws since some screws on a my Mk II 5er were semi getting stripped. if you didn't mind the imperfect screw, i wouldn't mind slapping it in an envelope and sending it to you. just PM and let me know.

Wow, its a small world haha. Yeah his name was Franklin. Really great ebayer to work with. And yes it does have an oddball screw on the back panel which I had a hell of time unscrewing to look at the electronics. There is also a slight problem with the bridge on it. I'm not sure if something is stripped or what but when I try to lower the A string it just wont move. When I got it the E was too close to the pickups and the A was way far away causing a massive imbalance in volume when switching between the 2 strings. The E raised up fine and although I was able to drop the A string a little all the sudden it just stopped moving and it's still fairly higher than the other 3 strings. Not really sure what the problem could be. I have wanted to take it in to get a proper set up but i'm a little nervous taking my vintage wal to some guitar shop. I don't live in an area with tons of good honest shops with techs that know what they are doing.
