Mystery Bass , can anyone help ? Thanks
This is my first post so please let me know if I am breaking rules etc !
I recently inherited a bass guitar from a family friend and although I am more of a guitar player this bass is too beautiful to give up so I have decided to have a dabble and see where it leads. There is no name , although there ia what appears to be a shark inlay on the headstock. Basically I have tried looking the thing up and can find NOTHING on it ANYWHERE !! All I do know is that he had it made for him in the US sometime in the 80's and that is pretty much where the trail ends (I know , very vague). As I said , I am a not a major bass buff but the quality of the guitar is just stunning and seems very well made and I am just wondering whether anyone has seen something similar and this is the place to ask ! I have (hopefully successfully) added some images. Thanks in advance for any help given, mcgreegs.
Not sure either, sorry. But damn,She's nice!
No idea, but it's a BEAUTY!!!
Looks like a home build to me. Is that pine?
I was thinking one-off also.
It sure is purdy though.....
thanks for the replies folks , yeah it is , just seems of excellent quality . I'm not entirely sure , it's definitely not pine , it looks to be birdseye maple to me but with the quality of the craftsmanship and the 5 digit serial number I would bet my house that it's not a homebuild. Cheers
I have a ten digit serial on my homebuild. It's both my kids birthdays.
That inlay at the headstock reminds me of an Ormsby. Pretty sweet bass. Maybe contact Perry to see if he built it.
Welcome to TalkBass mcgreegs.
Can't help You but that Thunderbird/Explorer hybrid is actually pretty nice.
Any idea about what the routing at the end of the FB is for?
IIRC there was another unidentified bass thread here just about a month ago that had same kind (not the same though) of a route under the strings.
then again i could be wrong!
