Thumbs up NBD: 1988 Peavey Fury (picture heavy!)

First of all, I just want to say thank you to everyone in the cheap Peavey thread. Including, but not limited to:
NicJimBass, mark beem and smcd.

First thing I did when I got it: called Peavey and got the birthday. April 11th, 1988. It's older than me! Only one 'issue' - the tone knob is kinda 'scratchy'. Any easy fix? I was almost hoping it would have more damage to show age, but looks like they took pretty good care of it (except for a few areas). The color is a bit faded in parts, but not sure if you can tell from the pictures.

Onto the pictures!

Best photos of a 100 dollar plays like three times the price bass I have seen in a while. Go to radio shack and get some potentiometer cleaner spray. They might call it TV knob cleaner or something.

Scratchy tone pot is a simple fix. A can of electrical contact cleaner sprayed into it will take care of it. If you want to try it from the top, put a rag around the outside to protect from overspray. Some pots have a hole on the underside. If you want to find out, loosen the strings a bit and the pickguard should lift up just enough to see it and spray it in. Turn it up and down a few times and you should be good.

Great score!

Easy way to spray the pots is to remove the 7 screws in the lower half of the pickguard and GENTLY lift it enough to get the nozzle of the spray into the openings in the pots. They are close to the pickguard. Turn the pots quickly a dozen times or so and bolt it back down. The pickups are not attached to the PG.

I don't feed trolls so I didn't get in on the cheap Peavey thread.

Congrats on the nice bass!

I'd lift the PG to spray the pots. That stuff is nasty. I've seen guitars with it caked all over under the PG and in the cavity. It also melts pickup foam stuff.

That bass is sexy.
