They have had this white/white/maple Peavey Fury sitting in there for a few months now. It's been priced at $300, which was more than I cared to pay for it. On a whim today I went in to see if anything had changed. I happened upon a sales associate that mentioned having seen me play before, which sparked a conversation and it turns out he is also related to one of the elders at my church. I ask him about the bass and held it for the first time. It was definitely in need of some TLC. There are some spider web type marks near the strap button on the bottom edge of the body; a hairline crack in the finish behind the bridge; the frets and fret board looked terrible; the strings were literally rusted; etc. I played it and was blown away by the sound and the feel of the neck. Talked to the sales associate and he dropped the price to $200 including a padded peavey gig bag.
Then the real work started...went home, convinced the wife that this bass was a must have...not an easy task by any means. About an hour later I was headed back to the pawn shop to pick up my new (old) bass.
Called Peavey and they said the serial number originally shipped in 1996. After doing some research I'm confused. The bass says "Crafted in the U.S.A." on the headstock, but from what I've read they stopped making these in the U.S. in 1995? I guess a few must have still been being made here?
Now for the pics! As far as I can tell everything is stock. I was going to dust out the control cavity, but after I took the knobs off there was still the original plastic underneath them - as if whoever removed it from the pickguard just tore it around the knobs. When I saw that I figured the control cavity had probably never been opened, so I just stopped and left it alone. I've cleaned her up, set her up the best I can and strung her with some DR Lo-Rider's.

| I had a mid 90's Foundation a while back that said "Crafted in the U.S.A.", but when I pulled the neck off there was a sticker in the neck pocket that said "Made in Taiwan". |

US Peavey's were made entirely in Meridian MS at that time. 1996 was years before Peavey started selling imports. |

She's a bit heavier than my MIM Jazz, but definately has a nice, thick, throaty sound...feels solid too. I don't think I can imagine myself doing any sort of mod to this bass, other than typical maintenance type stuff as it wears. Definately a keeper.
Spent another hour or so fiddling with the set up last night. I can't get the action as low at the first fret as I can on my MIM, but it is closer at the 12th and last fret than the MIM...so more level across the entire board if that makes sense? |

It's not hard to do, as long as you take your time and file a little bit at a time, checking the height often, otherwise you can file it down too much, which is a pain.

Schaller made most of Peavey's hardware for their USA stuff, and even the import stuff has never had cheap hardware or electronics on it. I have an import Peavey strat that I bought years ago, and the body is plywood, but the hardware and the fretwork are top-notch.

Congrats on the purchase. It's such a ridiculously good deal to be able to get an instrument like that at such a low price.
