4003 with Roto 66's is so awesome. Nothing beats that combo at its own game. Doesn't it feel nice to own the epitome of a particular sound?

Love the Ruby!
Nice colour, but I'm glad I bought my new 4003 in 2010, I prefer thinner necks.

There is a bit of a heel, not really a volute per se, but then again there always has been the flat heel protruding slightly to the underside of the first fret area since the mid 1970s anyway.
Actually you can start to feel it about two third the way to the second fret.

I played this bass for two hours this morning. It makes no sense. I should not like this neck. Not the profile I usually like. And yet it feels right to me. Weird.

It's usually a big time love or hate it thing.
Looks like you're on 'our side' in this one!

Welcome to the team, you'll never be the same.

I have four myself, so be prepared (for GAS attacks).

Actually that's not the case. My '11 4003 doesn't have that at all, so apparently it comes and goes. Here's a pic.

Necks -the initial impression is what the but it works and you forget about it quickly.
You can play for hours and it just feels right
Wonder what a black/polished stainless guard would look like ?
I,ve got a jetglo and I change over the guards when it takes my fancy

Beautiful! I'll be ordering myself a little graduation with a chemistry degree present from wildwood Today. The Red Ric with the darker fretboard.

Enjoy it!

How many days to get from CO to NC, if you don't mind me asking?

What does "NBD:" mean as used in the title of the thread?
