Smile NBD - 5 string content

I've been wanting a 5 string bass for a while now, and the Ibanez SR305 recently caught my eye as a solid entry level fiver.

On a recent trip to the local music store I noticed they had a couple, both for cheaper £65 cheaper than online. I looked them over and enquired to discover they were both actually second hand. If I hadn't been told I would have bet significant sums that they were both brand new.

Anyways, to cut a long story short I ended up getting a further £40 discount with a free case thrown in, and once home I realised that Schaller straplocks had already been installed saving me another £15.

I feel like I stole it!

It plays well, however, I can't get the action as low as I would like without having a few dead frets up near the second octave. The truss rod might need tweaking, to really get the most out of this one.

In accordance with TB tradition, here are the pics to prove it:

Congrats on your first crack purchase! Just enough to get you hooked. Some people are resistant to the addiction, whereas others delve deep into the fiver abyss.

I've had a couple 305s, a 405, and a 535. Those lower to mid-grade Ibbys are great for the moolah.

Absolutely. I've got a 205 and a 505 each of which I picked up used for a song and EITHER is a tone monster! I can't believe the sound coming out of these so-called "beginner" basses that I picked up for next to nothing. And not only that I love that thin neck and each only needed a few setup adjustements and none needed any frets leveled, but still play like expensive boutique basses.

Lets face it you did good!
