The finish is called BLUEBURST. Its a fender factory finish. I did a lot of research and that's what it is ,I would bet money in it . Look at it and it is a burst style in all blue. The color is solid around the edges and blend to transparent towards the center
Its not common at all ... Somewhat rare for basses but not as much so for strats.

Those P's were awesome with that fat humbucker near the bridge. One of my sons had one of the Vintage Blonde's for awhile. The only thing I didn't like about it was the horrible-looking tort guards that some colors came with. I love tort, but that was a period of cheap-looking, ugly tort for Fender. Of course you don't have to deal with it on that beauty. Enjoy!

I've seen some threads speaking about how better some basses are because of the year they were made...just wondering.
