After talking with a local Fender shop and finding out that they can no longer get a 2012 American Standard Precision V in Candy Cola because it has been discontinued, they suggested trying Sam Ash. I explained what I went through before ordering online ( hthttp://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/n...w-958177/tp://) and they told me Sam Ash is pretty good to deal with. So I took the chance. They only had one left in the Candy Cola. I received it today and I'm glad to say I believe I made the right choice.
The people I dealt with at Sam Ash were great. I told them about my past ordeal and they assured me that I could return it for any reason and there would absolutely be no re-stocking fee.
It's been pretty cold outside so after letting the bass sit in the box for about 15 minutes, then the closed case for 15 minutes more, then in the opened case for another 15 minutes, I finally picked it up, gave it a good looking over and then played it for about 30 minutes. The action is low, the sound is great, fit & finish is excellent. Intonation is a little sharp on the A, E and B strings, but there is plenty of room for adjustments. I'll get to that tomorrow when I get the White Pearloid pg that I putting on it.
Oh yeah, this time no swicth. It is a 2012 model, but I did pay $50 more, $1,149.99. |

The Candy Cola is nice. First seen it last year at GC. I always liked a good P-bass sound and I've played 5 string for about 20 years now. Finally got it all worked out to get exactly what I want. I'll be retireing my custom shop Jazz. Just too expensive to play in these Oklahoma dance clubs. Crowds get a little crazy at times.
Just got through playing 3 or 4 more songs. Dialed the sound in a little better. Was smilin' ear to ear.
Still 3 weeks away from my first gig with it. Still have one band member getting well and another tied up with personal busines. After that we're booked about 3 weekends a month through May and a few strung out after that. We'll fill in the blanks before too long. So I'll give her a good workout starting next month. |

| | | | Good for you!! I have a 2011 5 string Am Std Jazz bass sporting the same colors as your P bass. The Candy Cola, the white pickguard, the maple fretboard.....pretty cool, huh?
Enjoy!! |

A little hard to compare since one is an active Jazz and the other is a passive P, but the volume, tension and tone is really good up and down the neck.....and that's with the stock strings that came on the bass. |

Enjoy!! | That is cool Mike. I guess that makes us cousin brothers!
I have a white pearl pg arriving tomorrow. I'll post some pics so you can see what it looks like.
Another tb'er posted a thread with a candy cola jazz/rosewood neck that he added a vintage tort pg. I have to admit it looks pretty good. Gave my 2011 Candy Cola a vintage touch... |
