I'll get this part out of the way. For some reason when I order a bass it's never without some issue. I should have known something was up when they brought it straight to my door instead of me having to chase the delivery driver down.
The bass turns out to be a 2011....not a 2012! It's brand new, but......My first thought is bait and switch. So I call the store up, Austin Bazaar. To keep things short, I'm keeping the bass and they are going to make things right for me. I'm satisfied. Now the good stuff.
The Candy Cola is a beautiful color. Those of you that have seen it close up know what I mean. In no way can pictures do it justice. Fit and finish is excellent. No marks or scratches on the bass. Neck is in good shape, nice and straight. All plastic coverings were on the bass, including the tunning keys. The bass came in a very good SKB case and all the case candy.
Love, love, love the sound. Didn't take me 5 minutes to dial in a sound that I would use at a live gig. I played it for 30-45 minutes. Did I mention I love the sound? I imagine I'll be tweaking it a little, but it won't be much.
My biggest concern was the neck width, but it's no problem. Didn't really even notice while playing that it's wider than my Jazz. The action is a llittle higher than I like, but I can work that out. Overall it has a very comfortable feel and is easy to play. Weighs an even 10 lbs by my bathroom scales.
So I think I've got my dream bass, a solid P-bass that's a 5 string. Looking forward to playing some gigs with it.
Here's the pics;

Main thing, the bass isn't used, it's in mint condition and most of all it plays and sounds great.
I did mentioned that I loved the sound, didn't I?

Even tone and volume across the strings. The "B" string is a little floppy compared to my Jazz's, but I have a string tree on the Jazz's B string whereas the Precision doesn't. I have a set like my Jazz's and I may replace the round trees with those. I'll check it out closer when I do the set up. |

That's a pic of my Jazz. Really nice flame maple neck. I was showing the type of string trees I may put on the Precision, especially the one on the "B" & "E" string. I have an extra set already.
Here's a pic of the new Precision;

No need for a B string tree if you have enough windings on the tuner post, winding down to the bottom of the post. The round trees are fine and I think they look and work great.

Don't be afraid to mix strings, such as a low rider B with a sunbeam four string set.
