NBD....A Ben Lindsey classic P Bass....

My friend Ben Lindsey just delivered a wonderful P bass to me this past week....I pretty much asked for a classic 60's style P bass, and sent him some wood and parts to use, but he took te bull by the horns and came up with a fantastic looking, playing, and sounding instrument! The pickup is one of his own, hand wound, and it sounds perfect, every bit as good as the Fralins I have been using but with a personality of it's own. Very clear, very loud, and full of punch. Here's some bad iPhone pics just to tease, real pictures to follow in a few days....thanks Ben for an amazing instrument!

By "classic" I meant sound, feel, and general appearance. The neck is 1.75" at the nut, very comfortable for me. It even has a capacitor from the 60's according to Ben! It weighs 8 pounds, 6 ounces so also on the light side which I appreciated....I would also like to mention Ben's astonishingly good fretwork, he clearly spent a lot of time on it. Action is low and uniform with no buzzing.

Ben's "Crystal Clear" Pickups

I have one of Ben's new pickups in my 'Stang bass, and I agree that they sound really great. Clear... full range... solid lows (not muddy at all!)

Congrats! Ben made me a Precision that just kills. I also have 3 of his Jazz basses.

A few adjustments to this great bass....Ben made me a new neck with spoke wheel truss rod adjustment and abalone position markers, matching headstock, and full size Hipshot tuners...I have played this bass for quite a while now, it sounds and feels as good as anything I have ever owne, and that's quite a few!

What kind of bridge is that?

Looks like a Hipshot B style to me.

Yes indeed, bridge is Hipshot B, .75 spacing, solid brass under chrome. Tuners are Hipshot as well. I've been a Hipshot guy for a long time. Great stuff.

Cool

to be honest, you should match the P with a beautiful J, now (in Shoreline Gold...)

Hahaha....never been much of a J guy, though I have tried. I'm just missing my Sadowsky NYC in my avatar...Shoreline Gold, Brazillian board, what a great bass....but this one Ben built is awesome and LPB has been my favorite color since the 1960's!
You were faster on the draw Dave! Love your Fendowsky too! Plus I have my blue cables Dave made for this this bass, can you do Shoreline gold cables?????
