So I am currently in Tasmania for my sisters 21st, so I'm stuck in Wynard for a few days without a bass. I was starting to lose my mind, so I head down to the local second hand store to find a cheap P bass or something similar to play just to help alleviate my yearning for bass. I go in there, and there was the usual stock of SX P Basses and others, but there was also this
A jazz bass with blocked and bound fretboard! I had to try this. I plugged it in and noodled around on it for a while, and I was quite impressed with the sound.
I put it back on the wall, and went home to do some research. Apparently Carona was a company that shipped out Japanese Fender copies back in the 60's and 70's to Australia mainly. That is about as far as I got though, as information on these seems quite scarce.
I went back today and bought it for $100AUD.
The bass is in pretty solid condition, barring a few dents and scratches. The neck needs a tighten, and the pickups need some altering, but it is a very very nice bass to play.
I don't currently have an amp here, but it's loud enough to play acoustically, and it resonates quite well.
Does anyone out there own another one of these? I would love a bit more info on them.
Sorry for the quality of the pics. Taken on my phone during night.
