Sevdog that is exactly the way to describe it. What's you desired tone sound like? Those MFDs sure are amazing.

what's the difference between the L-2000 and the M-2000? I can see that it has more knobs and no switches - what's the story there?

The M has underwound pickups that are cleaner and clearer.
Blend knob vs pickup selector switch.
No coil tap switch.
Three band 18 volt preamp with active eq/boost and cut, vs passive bass and treble, cut only

The clips I heard make it sound cleaner and clearer but they made it sound like the "clearer" may just let more of the growl through as opposed to kind of getting a bit buried by the huge wooly bottom that the L-2000 has. Is that what you guys have found?

...if you say Yes then I'm in trouble.

If I am understanding you, then I believe it is indeed a solid "Yes" I have found that with the scooped eq you can get a really nice crisp tone with solid lows and clear highs. Different than the overly aggressive highs on the l2000. Crank up the mid knob though and the growl is definitely there! This has made me fall in love with my SVT 2 all over again! Sorry sevdog...you probably should just bite the bullet and get one.

I have the exact same bass as yours (white no binding). I think it was the last one in stock at musiciansfriend. Came with the awesome g&l gig bag. I think these non-bound ones were sold cheap cause they dîdnt conform to the m2000 tribute specs but thats just a guess. there is a seller on eBay selling these non-bound whites but for a lot more than what I got it for. Mine has an odd 40 mm nut width, only 2mm more than my jb2. Does yours have that nut profile? They are advertised as having a 1.625 nut profile but having this narrower spacing makes mine a keeper.
I originally wanted the black gts mahogany bodied beauty but for the price listed plus discount I couldn't pass on the white one. I am still seriously thinking of ordering the gts.
I like the m2000 better than the l2000s and l2500 that I previously owned.
I actually almost bought the used used one that you have but wasn't quite decided about getting it then.
