NBD...Kohlman Bassworks...7.75 Lb. P-style

I just picked this up recently, and thought I'd give my impressions:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/f...s-$375-945694/

Now, I have to start by saying I'm a Warwick guy, and as much as I like the sound of P and Jazz basses, the bulky bodies, and wide fretboards are at odds with my skinny body and short fingers.

That being said this is one of the nicest P styles I've played. Great fretwork, super low action, and at only 7.75 lbs...it's nice on my shoulder.

The EMG's are warm, and punchy, and I do prefer the flatter pickup profile for anchoring my thumb.

I'm still on the fence about keeping it, but it is a fine playing bass!

Much appreciate the feedback. That body is made of Paulownia, which is resonant, but uber lightweight. Working a deal to score some Paulownia for future builds right now. Stay tuned.

bb03, take some time with it. Chris knows what he's doing! Trust me! He does fine work and knows EMG systems like the back of his hand! Pro players for a fraction of what other builders charge! He built me my own signature custom Kohlman bass and has upgraded several of my other basses! all killer players.

Don't worry, DW. The issues I have with this bass, are the same I'd have with ANY P or Jazz...they're such a different ''fit" from my Streamer. I get the bug to retry this style, now and again. A new bass is fun for a while...but sooner or later it just becomes wall art. My Warwick is "the one" for me.

I agree...Chris does nice work. This is the best playing/sounding P I've tried.
