KILLED the audition last night, the tone was fantastic. The band loved it plus it looks killer too. Stock slinkies are perfect!

Oh, and please tell me this isn't the "beater 5-string" that you mentioned just purchasing in your Sterling 4HH F/T thread!

Amp'd: With the H the aggression is there period. With the HH the center position or even position above that & a mid cut has a very P bass like lack of aggression & warmth to the upper registers. The KEY to the Sterling over the Stingray is that the middle position is wired in parallel while the rest is in series. For the Stingray its ALL PARALLEL all the time. Having that middle position in parallel is like having a whole new bass. You also can tame it a bit by lowering the bridge pickup a tad.
The Beater bass was a ESP b335 for $273 shipped from hellomusic which is VERY discounted & still available

Which is one of the main reasons I returned to the 'ray5, love the EBMM SR5 & find it so versatile-even for a one pup bass.
Sterling's have intrigued me for the same reasons. The thinner neck, smaller body I like too.
So a Sterling with a neck HB as well....

Oh, and please tell me this isn't the "beater 5-string" that you mentioned just purchasing in your Sterling 4HH F/T thread! | Ampd I'm playing this now through my headphones & this is DEFINITELY warmer & bigger in the lows than my Sterling HH Rosewood but they are close... it wouldn't be close to a Sterling HH with maple which is way more aggressive. With this particular PDN Mahogany & Pauferro combo I'm finding I need to dial in more aggression than need to tame it... I find myself cutting the lows pretty good to keep the 1st 2 positions aggressive & the rest warm & punchy.
EQ dead neutral = No need to tame. VERY different than the Sterling 5 HS Maple I just had.

Combine it with DR Hi-Beams/Fat Beams/Lo-Riders :-) | I actually have some SS Sunbeams coming in... i'll give them a try. Otherwise I'll move the bass down on my Shuttlemax 9.2 with the 4 band EQ & parametric mids. Turning the bass too far down on the Sterling takes down some mids I like
Its funny to have some people asking me about taming the aggression & I'm trying to coax just a wee bit more out of it. Thats how GOOD these PDNs are.
There are a few left around people & you really should NOT hesitate. Theres a Bongo 5HH left at drumcityguitarland. Give em an offer & never regret spending the cash. It will save you money in the end not swapping out basses so damn much!
Heres the result of my audition with this beast....
Hey man, thanks for jamming the other night. You sounded great, and the rig you brought had great tone!

Kudos!

Laneline- Appreciate everything bro... If I had a shot at the Reflex HH5 PDN I wouldn't have had a chance to have my Sterling HH5. The Reflex was just a bit too much to handle on the fly, I ended up using it like a Bongo picking either series or parallel in active & using just the 4 band EQ so having a simpler bass is perfect. Thanks again for all the support man, you really helped me out a lot!
This run is CLEARLY warmer than a "regular' EBMM, its more apparent to me every time I play. I really think a set of Dean Markley Helix SS strings will make this a super bright monster when I want it. As of now I almost always have the bass cut a bit & the mids & treble boosted. A new pair of those strings & I'd imagine I'd venture into other EQ realms & increase the versatility of this guy
Cobalts with an increased low presence dont appear to be the best fit (Although I haven't tried em)
Best bass I've ever played hands down, prettiest EBMM I've ever seen... couldnt be happier with it.

BTW I like the tort guard you put on it better than the black one that was on it before.

Ceramic pickups with coils in series - how can you tame a monster like this, you have to let the dogs out
