NBD (sorta): Squier CV Jazz

I just came home with a Squier CV Jazz that I ordered through a local music retailer!

I wanted one new in a box, was told that another location just received one that was just put on the hangar. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box in the store and that location had sent me their old, beat up demo unit instead of the new one that I was promised.

I brought it home anyway, we made an agreement that I would play this one until a new, unopened unit arrives. Since that is going to take upwards of a month (they said it has to come from China) I put a fresh set of Roto 66s on it and the Fender strap locks that I bought.

After a quick cleaning and setup it plays and sounds great, the CVs are a fantastic bargain!

Here's a picture of it with my Squier Precision:

Congrats on your new bass. Looks great!

If it feels good to you and you like the sound it may just be a keeper. Sound and playability are what's most important, right?

If you like the bass you have, can you maybe convince them to give you a discount on it? Even if this is just in form of a voucher or something?

(Congrats BTW)

They offered a discount, but it was too little to accept given the condition that it's in. All of the CVs that I've played over the last little while have been excellent instruments, the quality of them seems very consistent.

Dang, it must have been pretty beat up.

Yes, the quality of the current CV's are quite impressive. It's a great time to be in the market for budget priced basses, as you get a great bass at a great price.

It's obvious that the bass has been on display for some time - the serial number indicates that was made in 2010.

I was promised a bass in new condition and got the floor model instead. They didn't even bother to wipe it down before putting it in the box - it was covered in fingerprints and the frets were filthy. I think I'm more upset about being deceived then anything else, which is a shame because I would normally consider this retailer to be reputable.

So true. I'm still on the fence about "upgrading" to an American Standard. The CV is really a sweet bass.
