NBD x2 even though its the same model

Hello all,

This is my first post, Ive been lurking for a while! Ive recently switched to bass due to the needs of my band, and i just purchased 2 Mark Hoppus signature models. I love the punch that this bass has, and due to the consistency of them, i got 2, one for each tuning the band i play for uses.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics!
and yes the cab is a new one too!

The tunings are as follows
Surf Green E B D G
Blonde B B D G

dont ask, my guitarist played for spitfire and has never used a normal tuning ever.:wallbash:

I don't think I've ever seen a screwier tuning than BBDG...

I can't say I'm a fan of the looks of the MH Jazz, but they've always played nice & sound great. They look like they're missing something though.

BBDG is awkward, but the B's are in octaves, Low B then B

id post links to the band i play for so you could hear it, but i think its against the rules

No it's not. Link away as long as you * out any vulgarity in the post.

And welcome to Talkbass!

They are technically classified as a Precision bass that features a Jazz bass style body. Nice basses, enjoy them!

Why on earth are you tuning your basses that way? Please don't tell us it's because it makes it easier to learn the songs. That's such a lazy approach.

From what I hear (rad funky metalcore, I like it) that isn't anything lower than a open low B. You should be able to tune to a much more conventional tuning and be more versatile.

My .02 anyway....

the songs were written in those tunings, so i just went with it, now that I know how to play them, ill go to a conventional tuning

Being that im normally a guitar player, it made sense, but some of the songs i can play in EADG for sure, havent worked on the B songs yet

Is your drummer rocking an X-men symbol tattoo over his heart? Just curious.

Good call. If they were my songs and basses, I would tune one in standard EADG and the other in BEAD. Both of those would help keep the neck of the bass from doing all kinds of funky things over time....

Hey, Survivalist, nice duo ya got there. I am partial to the surf green, but overall, the Hoppus J/P basses have grown on me as of late. It must be the minimalist approach to its layout: one pup, volume--fewer headaches.

I've owned three Mark Hoppus Jazz Basses and I will likely own another sooner or later. Mine were all alder body first generation models. I'd like to try the ash body with reverse P pickup.

Straight from Fender...

Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass® Model : 0138301... Fender's Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass® guitar is the perfect punk-pop bass-as powerful and addictive as a blink-182 hit. Distinctive since its 2002 introduction as a Jazz Bass with a split single-coil Precision Bass® pickup...
