Neck 'Feel' - 2013 MIM Standard Pbass vs Fender Classic Series 50s Pbass
Hey folks, I have a late-model MIM Standard Pbass and have a chance to pickup a Fender 50s Classic. I know the specs on the necks, but what about the 'feel' of the necks verses each other? I play an SR5 and an RV5 so the width isn't the concern, the 'thickness' is.
I’ve got a ‘50s Classic P. Before I bought it, I also played a Standard P, and remember the neck on the ‘50s Classic P feeling significantly more “substantial” than the Standard P. Whether this was because of the differences in radius and/or nut width, I’m not really sure. And my opinion may have been jaded after playing Jazzes almost exclusively for about two decades. In any event, I like the ‘50s Classic P a lot.
They differ in two main ways: 1,625" satin on MIM standard, 1,75" poly on MIM classic
I found out I didn't dig the bridge (threaded saddles) on the classic '50s, other than that, no contest: classic '50s feels, sounds, cuts better (thru the mix) than standard Precision.
