The worst era for Fender was actually the 1970s. This is when CBS began cutting costs and making changes in the quality of parts. Since Fender became employee owned, they have been making some of the best basses in the their modern history.

I would go with the Fender.

Agreed. lol

Ironically, I never particularly cared for the sound a Pbass by itself (and still don't), but it just sits in a mix so well.

Search, I'm glad you found a bass you like! It sounds like your experience is exactly how I know when a bass needs to come home with me. Every bass I've bought spoke to me within the first few notes of picking them up.

Let us know how it sits in the mix with your church choir!

No on the P bass. A bass with two pickups will give you a lot more versatility, tone-wise. Good choice.
