Need help to see where this Fake Gibson Blackbird came from!
I was wondering if anyone out there can help me find anything out about this apparently fake Gibson Sixx Blackbird? I work for touring bands and I purchased this from a "friend" on a tour (funny enough that tour actually had the artist who this bass was made for on the tour!) that sold me this instrument and cited it was a re-vamped prototype from 2005 since "he" wanted to make some changes to his model. Well, I know one of the original designers and techs that worked directly with Gibson to make the original Blackbirds, and he informed me that it was wishy washy. Anyway, I tried to search the usual Chinese Bootleg sites and that stuff but I did not see where any Blackbird copies were made. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
This is a total fake, right? Or something dressed up as one??
It looks like a refinned Studio (disco'd several years ago) to me. The headstock looks correct for that model as does the flat non stepped body and set neck. Gibson has done a lot of very interesting one off things over the years, I've never seen another like this but I'm not too surpised looking at it. It looks like it has a S/N stamped on the back of the headstock, care to share it?
Serial number looks good, 2002 Studio but the inlays look real and blown up the finish looks like the Gibson satin. The case looks to be right too.
