New 5-string bass needed

I play in 4 bands. I play funk, Indian folk, rock and pop. I already own an esp ltd b155dx. Looking for a good five string bass within $800.

Please help me decide what bass to get? give me your suggestions as soon as possible.

Maybe a used Fender P5, used MM stingray or sterling 5 stringer, or a new SBMM ray35 (notice there will be color options for this one later this year)

Do you want new or used? Active or passive? It sounds like you are wanting a swiss-army knife of basses. I don't know anything about Indian Folk music, so my suggestions may be "off".

SBMM Ray-35
MIM Fender Jazz V
G&L Tribute L2500
Ibanez SR505, SR605 or SR705

Cyborg nailed it

I just add
Yamaha Trb1005j
Yamaha Bb425x (this one's cheaper)=half the other pricetags
Yamaha BB1025x

Cheers,
Wallace

I do not have many options here in India, so whenever I go to the USA for a tour with my band, I will have to purchase it then. Problem is that we don't stay in each city for long and the music stores (including GC) have very few options in the store. Whatever u want, u have to order. So I hardly have the option of playing before purchasing.

And ya I did try out the yamahas, liked only the ten but the Yamaha authorised dealer here is asking f for over $1600. That is way off my budget.

Check the G&L l2500 tribute, its a great axe and within your budget.

subhomoy mitra 02-18-2013 07:50 PM

I meant, out of the Yamaha I liked only the trb.

I had these in mind- fender mim active deluxe jazz bass, schecter Damien elite 5, esp ltd f415fm, fender mim standard v jazz bass, Ibanez Sr 505, Ibanez atk 805. Now please help me choose.

If you don't have time to browse for something used, pick up a Carvin B50. Well under your cash limit. But, if you can find the time to browse a little for something used, pick up a Carvin anyway.:D

An Ibanez SR505/605/705 are much nicer basses than the LTD B155DX ... I've had 2 of those, and sold both. There is a huge difference in neck profiles, and the Bart 3band EQ is more powerful, and clearer sounding.

Go to your local GC & music stores, and try stuff out ... see what you like.

Wallace320 02-19-2013 05:34 AM

I had each and everyone of them (Schecter apart)

An' I say (like Eric Clapton on "I shot the Sheriff"):
- Fender MIM Standard Jazz V, to stay passive and effective
- Ibanez Atk 805e Premium, to stick to a Precision wise neck, a SterlingRay wise active bass and an Ibanez trademark three band equalizer

Wallace

How does the g&l tribute l2500 compare to the musicman stingray, and the previous mentioned basses?
How is the mid range growl of the g&l?

subhomoy mitra 02-20-2013 12:28 AM

Also give me feedback on difference between g&l tribute l2500 and g&l tribute m2500.

subhomoy mitra 02-27-2013 05:36 PM

Please help me out here.

A Lakland 55-01 might be something to consider.

+1,000

Or a used 55-02 - if you can swing a few extra rupees. This is *my* Swiss army knife.
