Not very premium. All small things that during my complete set-up and restring I fixed but with such a great fret job and the rest of the qaulity I was disapointed that not only did Ibanez miss this but sweetwater and it's 50 point checked missed it big time. That being said I love this bass and would def rec to anyone looking for a more tradition body style with a ton of tone options. The neck for me is the perfect blend of string spaceing for my right hand and great neck feel .
When you're ready to sell the tuning machines, let me know! Thanks!

Oh, and I have serious GAS now. Thought that was done for now...apparently not. I had no idea Ibanez was releasing another ATK! This one truly looks like a winner (and telling by the soundbytes, SOUNDS like a winner!) I may have to trade up my ATK300 and ATK305...must have. Oh yes, MUST.

I'm gonna call hipshot and see it I can just get the stem/key part since the rest of the tuner is the same as far as gear and housing goes.

The 800 & 805 ATK's are a huge homerun for Ibanez, IMO. I've had my ATK-805 for about 2 months & it is an amazing instrument on all fronts - tone, build, playability. Huge amount of tones available! The standard ATK's are great basses in & of themselves, the Premium versions of them are just amazing.

Got mine from sweetwater too, needed alot of setup time but now its on par with my Roscoe playing wise. In fact the only reason im selling my ATK805 is because i have that roscoe If only they made a 6 string ATK...

Those clips don't do it justice in my opinion. The options are limitless. The neck feel plus it's light weight for it's size. Add in the pickup position feels spot on for me. Never played a bass that felt so "right" to me .

Just curious if any of you 805 owners had ever owned a Lakland 5502, and, if so, what do you prefer about either bass.....

Played a 5502 of a budy of mines and found def felt heavier and I know it's small but I hate the rear pups on the 5502 having the two screws exposed. I'm a finger player and I rest my thump on both pickups and going back and forth is much smother from pup to pup. plus I love the contoured pups really allowed me to get that rear pickup right under the string and basicly us it as a ramp. Neck and body feel is close on both. tone I really can't remember the 5502 getting so many dif tones.

I currently own both, and heres my take.

Playing them is apples and oranges, the 5502 is longer scaled, much wider spaced and hangs differently.

The 5502 has a bit more edge (i have the maple neck), although i think it has more to do with the body woods than neck material. The Ibanez has more ouput, and the preamp is more flexible to me. I tried the "using the bridge pickup as a ramp" thing but didnt like it so i lowered it enough to be comfortable, not much difference in balance.

the neck pickup on the Ibby is days ahead of the Lakland, and the fretwork is way better. My lakland needs some fret leveling in the near future.

I dont play either one too much as im attached to my 6, but if i had to pick one up id reach for the Ibby first, its just faster, lower and louder than the Lakland.

Also, the neck on the Ibby is fat-ish, while the Lakland seems to be wider and thinner. I really never got used to the 19mm/35' thing.

PPS: The bridge pickup switch gives you too many options. I avoid using it because id play with tones all day and never get around to actually practicing. Not for anyone OCD.

Can the ATK805 get a Jazz Bass sound with the back pickup split? Looking at the pickup location, I am guessing the ATK805 can get more of a Stingray tone on the bridge pickup.

It is very jazz bass-y. It convincingly does P bass, jazz bass and stingray tones well without losing too much of its own sound throughout. Given the bridge pickup location, it doesnt get as bright and burpy as a warwick or that jaco sound, but its close enough if you ever use it. I usally keep the bridge on full, but if the venue is too boomy ill split the bridge to the pickup closest to the bridge to get more edge on it.

Having played it side by side with a stingray, its a tad less bright, but better balanced due to the curve in the Ibby pickup.

The ATK805 sounds like a winner. My local dealer quoted me a great price and I think I will pick one up for the new year.
