Need to show off my new bass. Its a joint effort between myself and another luthier in toronto area.
Here's the specs: All hand carved solid woods - spruce top & flame maple back/sides. Bound ebony fretboard and Brazilian Rosewood headstock overlay. The body is reminiscent of the wide-bottom Epiphone archtops from the '40s, and the sliding pickup, skinny neck and snake-head in style of '70s Gibson Grabber bass. The pickup itself is genuine NOS (new old stock) 1970s Gibson - Bill Lawrence era low impedance single coil. Very clean while maintaining some "gibson sound" (whatever that may be these days :-) LOL). The slide feature picks up harmonic nuances along different areas of strings. The pup also has tilt adjuster which shapes tone as well. At rehearsal I heard how the pickup could be slid just into the right spot in order to balance lows & highs with the room. Nice low action, flat wounds and skinny neck make for easy playability and allows me to do what I need to do to let my musical feelings out.
Love this bass, but already thinking of next one. It will be similar to this but with the gibson G3 style - 3 Bill Lawrence pups (I now have enough pickups to make two basses with G3 configuration!!!:-).
